Contribee: A Giving Experiment

Contribee: A Giving Experiment challenges participants to increase their volunteerism and charitable contributions. Learn more about yourself, how giving can make a difference and what doing more does for you!

In the month of December I plan to do at least one charitable act each day. Day by day I will be giving. There is no gift too small, and no gesture to large. Why do this? Well, why not? Join me in taking 31 small (or big) steps toward making our communities better places! What better time than the holiday season? To make it easy for you to participate in this experiment, I created a three-step process.

Step 1:

Each day in December plan on doing at least one action that is charitable. Remember no gift is too small, and no gesture is large. If you’re not sure where to start, here is a “huge list of charitable things to do.”

Step 2:

Get others involved. Reach out to family, friends, groups, nonprofits, businesses, etc. and ask them to participate for a day, a week, a month, or just to help you with a simple action. For example, tell a bakery what you are doing and ask them to donate bread for people in need.

Step 3:

Share Contribee: A Giving Experiment and connect with Contribee online:

Post your actions on the Contribee Facebook wall, Tweet @Contribee, or email us to share your actions, ideas, or whatever you want!

Back Story

I didn’t want to scare folks off with a long story up front, but if you want to know where I’m coming from, my story is below.

My name is Joshua Ansell-McKinnon and I’m just a normal guy from San Diego, CA who has been trying to figure out how to give back to the world. Like a lot of people, I don’t have a lot of money to contribute, I work alot, and I am not sure which charities are the good ones.

——-Wait!——-That was my old mindset…

I always thought about how could I get involved but didn’t take action until a few years out of college when I saw how easy it is to help others. So, for the past few years I’ve helped nonprofits by donating my time and skills, have given small sums to various causes and have contributed goods to charities. I know I am not Mother Theresa, but I am making progress!

Work has led me to freelance in internet related matters: making websites, consulting, running marketing campaigns, BLAH BLAH BLAH…Wow that was boring, sorry. So, I get how the internet works and have wanted to do more that combined my skills and urge to create with my desire to help change the world.

LIGHTBULB! Maybe I can take my skills and use them for good and create a site that can help people, that can become a community of contributors. And that’s how Contribee and my first my first project, A Giving Experiment was born.

Contribee is a work in progress and this giving experiment is it’s first project. Your participation will help your community and, if you want, can help shape what Contribee becomes as well.

“Everybody giving a little makes a big difference!” -Joshua Ansell-McKinnon
